Our livers and kidneys are amazing organs!!  They work 24/7 for us.

Becoming Aware of Your Liver and Kidneys

Your liver is located in the upper right portion of your abdominal cavity, below the diaphragm and protected by your rib cage.  It is the chief detoxifying organ in the body and weighs about  3 lbs.  The liver has over 500 functions!

It regulates most chemical levels in the blood and excretes bile, which helps to break down fats, preparing them for further digestion and absorption.  All the blood leaving the stomach and intestines passes through the liver.  The liver processes this blood and breaks down the nutrients and drugs in the blood into forms that are easier to use for the rest of the body.  The liver stores vital vitamins, glycogen, fats, carbohydrates, proteins and minerals.  And the liver cleans out toxic chemicals, poisons, cholesterol, drugs, etc. from your blood and attempts to remove them from the body.

Most of us have overloaded, congested livers that cannot do their job effectively.  As a result, some of the toxins stay in our bodies and eventually seep back into our blood stream, causing real health problems.  The good news is that the liver has an unusual capacity to regenerate, cleanse and heal.

If the liver is congested, you may experience:

Anger, emotional frustration, irritability, as well as inflexibility or rigidity in your body,  breast distension, menstrual pain, headache, dry, red eyes, tendonitis.

The liver has a special relationship to the eyes and many of the disorders of the eyes and vision are liver-related.

A healthy liver harmonizes the emotions, creating a relaxed, even disposition and clear thinking.

Some Foods that are Beneficial to the liver:

Foods with a sour taste
1-2 tbl. Fresh lemon juice in a cup of warm water upon rising in the morning
Apples, especially organic sour apples
Greens, i.e. kale, mustard greens, broccoli, parsley, collard greens and green algaes
Chinese Wolfberries
Seaweeds
Radishes
Herbs:  milk thistle, and sea buckhorn, chamomile tea

Your Kidneys are located near the middle of your back.  They are a pair of bean-shaped organs responsible for clearing waste from your body.  Each day, your kidneys process about 200 quarts of blood to help remove about two quarts of excess water and waste products (from food and normal breakdown of active tissues).

Kidneys also release three important hormones: erythropoietin (which stimulates the bone marrow to make red blood cells), renin (which regulates blood pressure), calcitriol (the active form of vitamin D, which helps maintain calcium for bones and for normal chemical balance in the body).

If your kidneys are not functioning at optimum you could experience:

being fearful often, weak willpower, feeling insecure  or isolated, frequent urination, bladder infections, kidney stones, skin rashes, poor short-term memory, low back pain, ear problems, osteoporosis or  elevated blood sugar.

Foods especially good for the kidneys

watermelon
lemon juice
cranberry juice
pumpkin seeds
dark green vegetables (for their natural calcium supply)

Almost always these conditions can be prevented, even healed, if you are willing to adopt a healthy food program, exercise, establish a periodic cleansing routine, and  nourish the kidneys and liver.
